Le Costantine Foundation is a sanctuary of tradition in the heart of Salento—where weaving, embroidery, and sustainable agriculture converge. At the heart of it is “Casa Laboratorio,” a workshop preserving the ancient craft of tessitura a mano. I had the pleasure of documenting master weaver Rosario Schito and her quietly powerful process.
Inside Casa Laboratorio, the rhythm of weaving becomes a language. Threads pass from hand to hand, forming patterns rooted in history. The loom creaks softly, echoing stories of women who came before. There is no rush here—only repetition, memory, and the precision of care.
“The Process”
I sat down with Rosario Schito, one of the foundation’s master weavers, as she guided me through her practice.
“THE CONVERSATION”
Every fabric begins with intention. Natural fibers are sourced locally, dyed with plant-based pigments, and shaped into patterns inspired by the surrounding landscape. In Rosario’s hands, the materials become meditations—each thread a gesture of continuity.
